Obama is 57, I could imagine a scenario where a Democratic president in 10-12 years asks him to serve as Secretary of State. Quincy Adams ended up in the House, and Taft became Chief Justice, so it’s plausible, but highly not likely.

And I’m guessing any confirmation hearing would spend a lot of time on the line of succession issue.

Andrew Johnson went to the Senate too. I think it’s a pipedream though. Obama is done in elected politics. We need to find our next generation of leaders. And I think a lot of them showed their colors in the Kavanaugh hearing.
