There was never a realistic chance that impeachment and conviction would remove Trump from office. Given the calculus of risk and reward, the Dems have done about as well as could be expected.

The only cure was, and is, to vote him and his Russian Mafia out resoundingly. Might happen, might not.

There are things to be done, and ten months to do them.

Conviction was always a hail mary. I think Nancy knew that but we have a case that shows Trump’s contempt for the Constitution and his fellow Republican’s willingness to go along with that to protect him and their own asses. It’s unlikely we’ll convict him but we are creating a necessary precedent with impeachment. Trump needs to be impeached so future Trumps don’t see that nothing was done and they can abuse the office the same way. Trump thinks it’s just a vendetta against him. He and his follow cultists are too narrow minded to realize that it’s about drawing a line in the sand against future abuses of power like this.
