Equal protection under the law was a basic principle of this country.

Yup, complete and utter bullshit. A crime is a crime and the identity of the victim should not be question. Would it be less of a crime if I killed a man for his wallet than if I chose to kill a man because I didn’t like him and stole his wallet?
