Turns out Baghdad was 1/3 Jewish during WW1. ~10 Jews remain today, either in mixed marriages or too old and stubborn to leave. Other than these people, Saddam Hussein scapegoated the last tiny handful that remained in the 70s after the vast majority left in 1948.
I know a bunch of people whose families left Baghdad in the 40s and 50s.
I know this is weird, but when the Christian community in Iraq started to get shit, one of my first thoughts was ‘thank God our guys are already out of there’.
