Since the Civil War, ‘states rights’ has developed a number of connotations that range from ‘unsavory’ to ‘foul’.

Kinda sad development imo.

Not just sad, but one that undermines the intent of the Framers - to have a limited government in some fashion that provides more powers to states to govern on issues that were left unstated for the feds.

The evil connotations that it’s taken on has meant that those who seek to legitimately restrict the power of the federal government are lumped in with those who have used it to deprive the rights of African Americans, etc.
