They didn’t take the show off the air, even, all they did was put Phil Robertson on “indefinite production hiatus”, meaning he won’t be in any new scenes filmed for the show until A&E allows it. A&E wasn’t nearly as punitive as it justly could have been.

Its one of the biggest hit shows on television. The entire clan would have to stone a homosexual to death before they’d take it off the air.
