My little girl dog just had another seizure.

Damn it! So horrible.

No idea what’s causing it, but this used to happen to our Golden.

It started fairly suddenly, he’d just stop, and you could tell he wasn’t really there. We’d hold him and stroke him and in a few minutes he’d come around. They were happening once or twice a week. we resigned ourselves to more vet expenses.

Then one day, my wife had a gardener friend over who said, “Why do you have so much Poison Hemlock in your back yard?” We’d had some guys tear out the old concrete and put a bunch of cheap compost on the yard, and the hemlock came up in great amounts on the verge where we hadn’t sodded. We didn’t know what it was, and it was kinda pretty. I spent a day tearing it all out.

The seizures stopped. He didn’t have one for a month. We figured it must have been the hemlock. Like most Goldens, he was a grazer.

Then one day, he had a seizure. Maybe it wasn’t the hemlock after all.

I went out, and sure enough, some new sprouts of it were coming up. I tore those out, and watched for others and pulled them when they appeared. He never had another seizure.

This might have nothing at all to do with what’s causing your dog’s seizures, but I’d check the yard for suspicious plants.
