This one is still weird to me. Post-war Pittsburgh was the most rabidly ethnocentric place you could imagine. We could identify 3 or 4 kinds of Irish, at least 3 kinds of Italians, but it never occurred to anyone that Jews weren’t white. Christ-killers, maybe, but definitely white.
Wish that was true because Catholics especially were very anti-Semitic. I know since I got endless hatred from them.
