Former Springfield man suspected in deaths of two police officers

A former Springfield man and his son are suspected in the Thursday, May 20, shooting deaths of two West Memphis, Ark., police officers.

Memphis media have reported that a man and his 16-year-old son were suspected to have opened fire on two West Memphis, Ark., police officers Thursday, killing both. The two suspects were later shot to death after a police manhunt through the Memphis, Tenn., area that left two more law enforcement officers wounded.

Family members told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the dead are Jerry Kane, 44, and his son Joseph and that they are from Ohio.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly Friday said Kane and his son formerly lived in Springfield.

Jerry R. Kane Jr., of XXXX S. Limestone St., Springfield, 44, has a son Joseph, according to Clark County court records. That house has been demolished and is a vacant lot.

Jerry R. Kane, Jr. is the perp not Jerry A.

I’m going to put my hands in my pockets.
