That’s where this will continue. We now have the first true instance of a ‘liberal gunman’ that I can recall. There will be retributive attacks - the cultists are already primed and have been for years. The control of all branches of government has not in any way dimmed the persecution complex that they are actively fed and encouraged in by their media. And someone will inevitably take action.

Of course, there are already countless examples of the far right committing mass violence and America carrying on as normal. So perhaps this will not be as dramatic a change as I think. But I think it continues the degeneration of the American republic that political violence will become normalised.

I might be a tad alarmist, but I am a bit worried that Trump may use today as his Reichstag Fire moment to shut down the Special Counsel and crack down on legitimate protests.
