McCain was somewhat forced into nominating her, but he still shouldn’t have done it. There were non-crazy people who were conservative enough that he could have nominated. They wouldn’t have made as big a splash, but they wouldn’t have turned into a liability, either.

And that speaks to the man’s judgment and decisiveness. I’ll tell you what I think. I think McCain and his people thought they’d somehow get the woman’s vote by bringing her on and didn’t think to do their homework.
