Best way to avoid a conundrum is for CBS to create an entirely new series set in the Star Trek universe, but as I said, taking place in the 26th century or something like that. That way there’s no need to have Kirk, Spock, Scotty, etc., being mentioned, except perhaps in passing reference.

Hell, even go with the 28th century; that’s far enough removed from any continuity - or intellectual property rights - issues.

Consider all the problems that we already deal with in Trek prequels/reboots. Now imagine trying to create a post-Voyager series that would satisfy all the fans. Hell, just the appearance of Klingons with rigged foreheads in the first Trek film caused problems with fans and that was with Gene arguing “They always looked that way, we just didn’t have the budget for it.”
