First World Problems:

I got a new work HP laptop two weeks ago and was given a bag full of various cables and gadgets to go with it, along with a brick that is allegedly a Dell universal adapter. I’m supposed to use this at home since I am occasionally (as in starting this morning and going through to next Tuesday morning) on call overnight. Since commuting is rather a PITA combined with on call, I decided to work from home during the day as well.

This morning I found myself trying to hook up my two monitors at home. The VGA to DisplayPort converter hates my old monitor, and only recognized a 640 x 480 resolution. Uhm, that’s so not going to work, I might as well use only my laptop. I finally cobbled together, in between my own cabling, and using the VGA port directly on the laptop, getting my two monitors set up. But I still can’t get the left monitor to be my main monitor. So pop up boxes for windows on the left monitor are popping up on the right monitor, grrrrr. And then I just discovered that making the left monitor the main monitor causes some of my application windows not to be accessible.

Technology, the source of my employment and the bane of my existence.
