So how was it that black slaves came to be imported to America? Because the white settlers weren’t willing to work that hard.

They could not get Native Americans to do the work, they would just run off and return to their people, so the white settlers, who found it easier to be cruel than to put in that sort of backbreaking work, just imported people who were not in a position to run away and threatened them with violence if they did not work without wages.

Um… actually, the reasoning behind black slaves (at least in Spain’s colonies) was because the Native Americans were hit hard by mumps, measles, smallpox, the flu, and other European diseases. Too many of them just plain died. Otherwise, they would have been the slaves and nobody would have gone to the trouble of capturing and transporting shiploads of Africans.
