Small roadhouse restaurant with truck parking, some west North Carolina two lane. Toothpicks are in empty Texas Red Hot sauce bottles. Tinted windows from the grease and smoke. Coffee is from sometime last week it feels like. It had…texture… Guy across from me is digging into calf brains with grits smothered in butter and some scrambled eggs slathered in catsup. With toast. I knew that because I was looking through the menu before he was served. That was the point in time I figured if you could not only stare down, but eat a plate of calf brains first thing in the morning…..You could probably drink sterno and be good.
