I have to walk back my Connick comment a bit, because looking at their schedule (Jazz Fest just ended yesterday), I see a whole lot of jazz and R&B artists in the schedule (many of them local acts you wouldn’t have ever known about unless you’re a either a NO/LA native or a total jazzhead), along with just as many acts from other genres (mostly pop and rock, but some rap/hip-hop and others, too). For seven full days of music over two weekends, it was a helluva roster:

The place was not for want for jazz at all from what I see, but there was something for everyone, it seems.

No doubt. They usually have a really great slate of artists. I’ve heard it can be hard to profit off music festivals so I understand them pursuing big headliner dollars. But I also understand folks reacting to it looking for the jazz theme to be especially highlighted by the headlining acts.
And music festivals evolve in funny ways too.
