He wouldn’t have twenty years ago. We don’t need a businessman. We need someone who understands policy and the world around us. Businessmen are out of touch with the average person’s worries and concerns.

Certainly his nanny state soft drink tax was out of touch with the average person — as well as Republican ideology. OTOH Bloomberg did understand policy and government — but probably belonged in the pre-Reagan party. He definitely fit in with John Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.
