That’s true. But Irish and European Catholics are “white” now. Many in the church, both priests and parishioners, have aligned themselves with the Evangelical right. They are not only anti-abortion but anti-immigrant and anti-black. I suspect most are part of the Catholic backlash against Pope Francis.
