We debated this point ad nauseam before, but what the hell: I think Hitchens displayed a noble spirit, but poor judgment. He put his companions at risk. (He mentions his “two staunch companions”; I’ve met one of them. Nice guy, very smart guy, has done lots of fascinating things, but I doubt he’s much of a street fighter.)

My motto is to not initiate a provocation in which you either can not or do not intend to prevail.
