I’m going to follow up on my Norman Rockwell comment. I think this whole “traditional America” BS may come from the kind of history books we used to have back in the day. You know, before the textbooks bothered to mention there were Native Americans, African-Americans, etc., that are also, like, Americans. All I remember from my school days is stories about white Europeans coming to North America and doing all kinds of great shit, except maybe for slavery and that whole Civil War thing. More modern texts are more inclusive, and of course that gets the RWNJ’s underwear all up in knots, because it diminishes (they assume) the contributions of white folks to This Great (Christian) Nation™.

In fact, traditional America has always been about a mix of peoples from all over the world. It’s why my ancestors came here, and probably why Bill Bo’s did, too. Traditional America, in my view, is not just about white folks who happen to go to church every Sunday.
