I’m not arguing that this man in the article isn’t “right wing” but rather I am supporting Mandy’s assertion that rule of law and respect for life are [American] conservative values high on the list—and that saying so isn’t somehow wandering into this fallacy.

There is no fallacy in stating that certain values are considered important, but when the statement takes the form that a lawbreaker cannot be a a member of group X, be it conservative or liberal - (and both groups could make their respective cases equally passionately I am sure) - then we are very definitely in no true scotsman territory.
