re: #574 jamesfirecat

You continue to clarify DADT as a homophobic bill.

Would you clarify the law that made it possible for blacks to serve in the US army, even though they had to serve in segregated units as a racist bill?

Maybe it was, but at the same time it was a step forward.

Obama is trying to repeal DADT by legislative means, since if he does it by executive order it can be undone by executive order.

When a person on the right is homophobic they are wrong, when a person on the left is homophobic they are wrong.

But there sure seem to be a lot more people who are a lot “more wrong” about gays on the right than on the left.

How can you see “no difference” between the party that mades it possible for gays to serve in the military and is now trying to let them do it openly, and the party that 3/4ths of doesn’t think gays should be allowed to teach their children?

First don’t throw that Dkos survey at me. You can pass it around the echo chamber if you want. But it means nothing to me. I can’t investigate it, but there are some weird things about it.

Second,
I already showed that DADT was homophobic. #536

It is a policy stopping openly gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals from serving in the United States military, as mandated by federal law Pub.L. 103-160 (10 U.S.C. § 654). Unless one of the exceptions from 10 U.S.C. § 654(b) applies, the policy prohibits anyone who “demonstrate(s) a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts” from serving in the armed forces.

What do you think that means?

AND MAYBE forcing African Americans to serve in segregated units was racist? Wow… Again at least their heart was in the left place… No problem Sir, I like sitting at the back of the bus. I am just soooo lucky just be allowed on the bus…

Obama says he isn’t going to do the popular thing, but rather do the right thing.

He could in one minute sign an executive order stopping all DADT investigations. How many members of the armed forces have been discharged due to DADT in the past 12 months? Maybe get all those investigators to look at any openly serving muslims in the armed forces that TELL everyone who listens that they are SOA. Do you really think there would be some major fallout? 12 months ago, when he really should have done it, he only had to answer to his own democratic majority. You know all those nice folks who are not (in your opinion) actively oppressing homosexuals. So why didn’t he? After making all those promises…All those great speeches. Given a chance….in July of 09 Sen. Gillibrand was trying to put a moratorium on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell investigations for 18 months, while the groundwork on a full repeal could be accomplished. What happened to that? The big bad Republicans (who did not have enough votes to blow their own noses) stopped it?

Democrats aren’t perfect on gay rights, not by a long shot, they’re not perfect on anything, but at the moment they’re the best option America has.

Right, cause the other side is worse. I got that from you already.

Well I think I have advanced my argument with you about as far as possible.

buh bye
