Pity. Real pity.

But, would like to hear the dirt on Mac. He screwed up the situation there by trying to defend the beaches, then switching back to the original plan to fall back to Bataan. Left a lot of supplies all across Luzon by doing that.

Well here it is: My dad was flying in one of the very few remaining B-17’s when the Philippines fell. Everyone knows that MacArthur was evacuated with his family by submarine. What is not known is that Plan A was to fly out. When they arrived at the airfield MacArthur refused to board my dad’s plane. He declared it unfit to fly. Think about that. This plane was one of a very few survivors and they were damn proud to still be taking the fight to the enemy. Did I tell you my dad was not only a waist gunner but also flight mechanic (engineer)? He kept this plane in the fight day after day, mission after mission.

Unfit to fly? Unsafe? Too dangerous for he and his family, but A-OK for the dopes fighting in her? MacArthur’s name has no cache in my family.
