re: #568 HappyWarrior
You know even if the first lady was reading a Socialist book, why make a big deal of it. Don’t people ever wonder why Communism had appeal to people? I will readily admit having read some of the Communist Manifesto for both a philosophy and nationalism in Eastern Europe class that it is boring and dry as hell but it was still at least intilaly a provoking read since as we know how influential Marx has been throughout history.
Many people don’t know that Marx was trained as an economist. Economists observe the world in the context of incentives, monetary and otherwise. As an aside, I went to Marx’s childhood home. He was German, from Trier, many people don’t know that either.
I don’t have much use for communism, but it is definitely interesting to study its genesis.
