re: #34 Drive By Commenter

FOP just lost an opportunity to sound sane. Their spokesperson stated flat out that “These officers did nothing wrong.” Uh, with a dead body in their custody that was last seen alive, uh, no.

Instead of sanctimony and claiming that they did nothing wrong, a better response would have been to start off by issuing a statement of remorse for Gray’s tragic death and that the FOP wants to see justice done. The officers are entitled to a presumption of innocence and that the facts and evidence are still being gathered. Also, the FOP believes in the justice system and that the officers do as well.

Of course, the response to that would still be that the FOP is nuts because these very officers didn’t give Gray a presumption of innocence, didn’t protect his civil rights, engaged in gross misconduct, violated all manner of rules, and he died on their watch in their custody. This is on the officers, and the lies and obfuscations by these officers shows that these officers had a reckless disregard for Gray’s life and that but for privately-shot video, they might have gotten away with still more lies.
