I actually saw 1776 on stage as well as screen and liked the stage version better. The movie seemed compelled to introduce motion into the story. Naturally there was less scope for moving around on a stage, but just because you can move farther doesn’t mean you should. Not every conversation needs to be conducted while walking, pacing, riding a horse… But I’m watching for old times’ sake.
