Before you get your hopes up, do please remember that the Repugs held the majority in the Senate when Garland was nominated. They could control the process.

The Democrats do. not. have. any. leverage. They might be able to delay things a bit. Do not blame them for what is actually impossible for them to do.

The hope is that Trump has an own goal, and nominates his version of Harriet Miers (Pirro, c’mon down!) such that even the GOP can’t get behind the nomination. This in turn delays things until the mid-terms, where we would hopefully take back Congress, and could ratchet up the pressure to such a degree that a confirmation couldn’t happen during a lame duck Congress.

At which point, I’ll hop on my plug in electric flying unicorn, and zip off to my chalet in the Swiss Alps.
