The Club of Rome and some of the people working on the problem at that time were not as wrong as some of their detractors like to make them out to be.

The standard accusation against them is that they predicted an apocalypse by now. However, looking at various projections made many of them have to do with the middle of the 21st century. And, food production and water woes do still look like they will become overwhelming by circa 2050.

I’d say even they have it wrong. Just like the peak oil advocates have it wrong. Technology is a big wildcard. Others mention GMO foods for instance as a bad thing, but they have made a big difference in food productivity. If we assume no technology innovation, then sure, we’re all doomed. I have faith in the ability of science to solve our most challenging problems.
