No doubt. That was inner-church Vatican politics. The Club, you had to follow if you were a member.
Roe v Wade obviously made the Catholic Church more political in the public sphere. Now they are into political activism, pushing The Club on everyone else and they should stay the hell out of it all.
As I recall, the Fundamentalist Evangelicals did not jump on the abortion bandwagon until much later, late 70’s as I recall from all the Campus Crusade for Christ yahoos knocking on our towel-stuffed dormitory room doors as we were jamming out to Floyd…
