I agree on the market angle of course…the rest is up to Mexico….the wealth is there but the reform is not…they must do it themselves….novel concept eh?

Mexico could be a net oil exporter if they chose to do so. They used to be, but they let their infrastructure degrade to the point that they now have to import some refined products. They have tons of proven reserves. However, the government took over their oil industry and pretty much ran it into the ground for the last 10-20 years.

The only way the Mexican problem is going to be solved is if the Mexican government steps up to the plate and pitches in and helps out big time. One place they could start is to sell the oil companies back to private entities and let them get that part of their economy back on track.

The other issue is drugs. Until Mexico actually declares war on the drug cartels, nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever be accomplished. It will be bloody and long, but they can take their country back if they really want to.
