The decorations on our Thanksgiving tables will be plates piled high with food taken from the potluck buffet on the kitchen counter. We’ve never really been much for ceremony, preferring instead to focus on the fact that it’s one of the few times Mrs. Fish’s full extended family can gather in peace.

Sounds lovely. I’ve scaled back on Xmas Eve dinner-I no longer haul out the Wedgwood (that has to be washed by hand) or the damask linen (that is a pain to iron) for that. I just use the everyday china and a bright tablecloth and lots of good food and friends and family.
That last bit is always the important part.
