Generally it’s in Dem’s favor because Republicans are more likely to show up for midterm elections, so a low turnout electorate is more Republican than the population generally. And the people who DON’T vote in midterms tend to be more Democratic than the population generally. So if turnout is high, it tends to favor Democrats.

Not always, but generally. We Dems tend to be too easily demotivated by things not being perfect, hence low turnout in 2010 and 2014. I guess we’ll find out if white hot fucking rage is a big enough motivator this year…

Yeah, I know there’s that trend in mid-terms, and I haven’t looked at it yet. But mid-terms are also screwed up by gerrymandering in a way that presidential elections aren’t necessarily screwy.
