A lot of that has to do with diet: a Mediterranean diet as in Spain & Italy, a lot of fish as in Iceland, Japan and Norway, etc.

In America we have a health-care industry that ignores diet in favor of prescribing medications, and a food processing industry that is little concerned with long-term health issues.
