The problem is, that takes money, and Republicans are against spending money on anything that actually makes people’s lives better. They only want to spend money when it 1) makes ordinary people miserable, or 2) makes rich people even richer.

Agreed, but it takes money we are going to have to spend. The Republicans can only hang on for dear life because their laffer curve / trickle down / austerity bullshit is only resonating with their hard core base and not the general public anymore. This power structure they have breaks within a decade -OR- we slump into fascism, so I’m picking the optimistic vision because I’m indefatigable that way.
