He’s the tip of the iceberg. American conservatism is being dominated by people that think empathy is a weakness, who derive a sense of satisfaction from the power to dominate others. Might really does make right, and truth emanates from the strength to force others to compliance. Look at how twisted their variant of Christianity is: there’s no Christ in it. But it isn’t just the religion the reflects it: the economics, the social policies, the international relations…all are built on magical thinking and the presumption that when they win, it’s because they’re fated and deserving, Their ends will always justify their means, and they see no contradiction in holding others to a standard they don’t (and won’t) obey.
