OF course, this is not what happened, in your opinion. I see the same things happen on the left and the right. Not EXACTLY the same, so don’t do that thing where it has to be exactly the same thing…. but similar enough to note that it is part of politics and yes even part of evolving.

I also think that (to answer your question) you really miss the concept of opposition. It is a very important part of democracy. In the British system they call it the “Loyal Opposition”, and by that they mean that it is ok to oppose, just for opposition sake, and that by doing that you get better, more thought out policy.

If you ever did debate, you would see the concept in force. You never know what side you will will have to take. You have to be able to defend or oppose ANY resolution.

The Free Press should oppose the government, not side with it. The opposition political party should oppose the government, not side with it. That gets you a better democracy.
