I believe I read somewhere that the ‘smartest’ (IQ) president in recent history was Nixon - and well ahead of the pack if my memory is right.

Nixon was highly intelligent. It was his emotional stability that was the problem. And his ethics. And his rampant paranoia. And probably some other stuff.
