I don’t think it always is in this context. There are two ways that the word “whore” is used pejoratively: 1) to describe someone who enjoys sex 2) to describe someone who does things for money

While the first usage has sexist connotations because it has historically been used to demean women, I don’t think the second one is used to demean women (or at least not any more than men). In this case “whore” is being used the second way.
