Maybe the notion of hating neighbors, friends and family members for being gay has gotten old? And the truth is people are born that way, and deserve better?

A minor, or major, quibble. I don’t think it matters if you’re born that way or if it’s a choice. Either parameter is valid and acceptable to me and should be in the eyes of society and law.

I think that the ‘Born This Way’ concept is a reaction to anti-gay forces presenting a foundation that sexuality is not merely a choice but ‘just a lifestyle’ therefore (derp). Saying you’re born this way stops that line of logic. Sexuality is a very complex thing which involves choice and massive amounts of internal and external influence. For some it not be a choice, for some it may be, and for many a matter of both to varying degrees.

But I don’t think that matters. Or at least it shouldn’t.

Again, I’m just an ignorant straight white dude and have only begun to really try and grasp what being gay living in our world means. In the end, the ‘Born this way’ concept, while there is much truth to it, shouldn’t be the intellectual stop gap when responding to the Sexuality Luddites.

At some point we have to come to It Doesn’t Matter and challenge them on those terms. What should matter is love and respect, and mutually beneficial relationships based on those foundations.
