I want to add that people need to see government surveillance as more normal, because that is what it is becoming. As it gets easier for governments to keep an eye on people, they will keep eyes on more people.

And lastly, just because the great majority of a an activist organization is peaceful, doesn’t mean everyone it reaches is. It’s entirely possible for someone who was already unhinged to fixate on perceived (and sometimes actual) anti-police rhetoric and decide to attack law enforcement. Social media monitoring is part of how that is prevented.

Again that’s not the appropriate legal standard.
