re: #5 Belafon

Question for the musicians here. My youngest, who turned 13 today, is writing his own music, currently on Finale. For those who might remember, I put up a link to a song he wrote for Halloween. He’s a smart kid, and is willing to learn what he needs to (one of the things he wants for his birthday - the party is next saturday - is a book on Unity programming). One of the things he wants to do now is record sounds and mix those into music he writes. I am going to buy him a recorder, but I also need to find software he can mix with. It won’t matter much if he has to use one program for generating the instruments, like the Finale he’s using now, and another for mixing. I was wondering if anyone here has used any type of mixing software at home? Preferably cheap. On the curve of simplicity versus features, it can lean toward features.

I’ve used a program called Acid since about 1997, nice program. I use the full version, but they sell a scaled-down version that’s pretty reasonably priced - and you can download a demo for free to see if he likes it.
