It doesn’t do that for me. Perhaps your setting got messed up? about:preferences in the address bar and tick “open links in tabs instead of new windows”

That would deal with it if it were just that, but I also assume embedded tweets are displaying properly for you.

I’m getting the bare-bones box that tends to show up when there’s an embedded deleted tweet instead, but it’s still possible to view it with all its avatars and images intact by clicking on it and going to Twitter.
