I suspect religious nutjobs feel free to say this sort of thing because people just ignore it since “it will never be a serious position that we need to deal with”. They are probably correct in that it won’t become the law of the land.

What they miss is that this sort of permission leads to individuals harassing and/or killing homosexuals. Our brothers and sisters, children, parents, and friends.

It is beyond disgusting.
