If President Obama has any agenda, any idea of how he wants to be remembered (other than “Obama”care), then he ought to make the 2014 elections about one topic: gun sanity.

He has the bully pulpit to do it. However, he has to be careful not to be distracted by the other hot button issues: immigration, health care, war.

This is a double-edged proposal. Traditionally, gun control is an issue the Democrats embrace when they get tired of winning elections and want to lose a few.

I doubt the recent appalling news is sufficient to change the political calculus very much.
