I think McCain would have joined Hoover on the list of ignoble presidents, his faith in the “free market” and in “strong” foreign policy only exacerbating the damage done by Dubya. And I sure as fuck don’t think he’d have been able to do any better with Congressional Republicans than President Obama has.

If McCain had won it is likely the Tea Party would not have come into being. Conservative activists would have been more focused on getting the laws they wanted enacted and the TP would not have received the tremendous boost it got from the national debate over Obamacare in the summer of 2009.
