Um… actually, the reasoning behind black slaves (at least in Spain’s colonies) was because the Native Americans were hit hard by mumps, measles, smallpox, the flu, and other European diseases. Too many of them just plain died. Otherwise, they would have been the slaves and nobody would have gone to the trouble of capturing and transporting shiploads of Africans.

That and they had the option of fleeing into the wilderness that they were familiar with back to their own people. And they tended to fight back. So the white settlers were not just lazy and cruel, they were fucking cowardly…
