I think the speculation downstairs that either the Putin or Trump was blackmailing Republicans based on information from the Russians is unwarranted. The GOP has a President who will sign anything they produce; a President ignorant of policy with no real beliefs; what could be more perfect for them to implement their entire domestic agenda. Despoiling the environment, eliminating health care, tax cuts for the rich, drilling for oil everywhere: this isn’t Trump, it’s the GOP.

It is only on foreign policy that there might be disagreement, and, in practice, Trump has not completely succeeded in his initial plans to cozy up to Putin and provide Putin all he wanted. But the behavior of the Senate FP hawks is somewhat surprising and suspicious. the rest, though, is standard Republican policy since Reagan.
