My gut tells me that making things with the Iranians this explicitly personal was a huge mistake. The fact that they’re taking their time while Trump now seems to be freaking out supports this hypothesis.

The most hard core guys want this. Wise statecraft denies them this playing field. This will get much more messy before we come out the other side. And the Banana Republicans own it. If we survive the next election they need to pay the consequences.
