That’s my thought, as well. I know us laypeople make fun of the whole diplomatic process, with their strongly worded letters, kicking out diplomats, and other actions that seem to amount to nothing more than silly charades. The thing is that these things are the equivalent of non-violent warfare in the diplomatic realm, and losing the diplomatic war (in the sense of reaching the point of severing diplomatic relations) often leads to the start of an actual violent war. It’s important to pay attention to those strongly worded letters, lest we end up with another Pearl Harbor.

Russia has almost their entire army committed in Ukraine, where it is rapidly being degraded. They aren’t going to start a war with the U.S. or NATO.; their threats are completely empty.
