I wish I were wrong, but I fully expect him to have a few tricks up his sleeve - economic sleight-of-hand ones that will make him very popular with a lot of people, if only for at least a few years…the cracks might start to show before 2020, but not enough to cost him an election, especially if the press is even half as fawning over him as it was in 2016…

The fatal flaw in that theory is … Trump himself. This would imply that he either moderates his exceptionally acidic and divisive tone, or turns heel against the GOP.

As long as he employs Steve Bannon, that ain’t happening. He’s pretty much locked in with the wingnut base and GOP allies Axis, and won’t really be able to prop up his approval numbers until polling firms fix the polls deliberately.
